Medication Abortions are Essential for Reproductive Healthcare

April 10, 2023 - 0 Comments

Dear Friends:

Last Friday in Texas, anti-abortion extremist Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued a preliminary injunction to end the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, a medication in the abortion pill that has been used safely for medical abortion for two decades. With this act of reproductive coercion, Kacsmaryk and the anti-abortion extremist movement took a radical step toward their ultimate goal of a federal ban on abortion.

In response, Judge Thomas O. Rice of the Eastern District of Washington has countered Kacsmary’s decision with an injunction allowing us to maintain the status quo and continue to provide abortion care with mifepristone. Kacsmaryk’s decision is now on hold for seven days, and the FDA has filed an appeal

This unprecedented legal attempt to ban medical abortion is a direct assault on our individual freedoms and our right to full bodily sovereignty.

For nearly half a century, Women’s Health Specialists has fought on the front lines for reproductive justice, to keep women’s health in women’s hands. THE MOVEMENT TO PROTECT REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE AND HEALTH CARE IS GROWING NATIONWIDE. With your support as we navigate this emerging conflict, we will continue to provide medical abortion care with mifepristone.

Women and their allies must stand together to protect abortion access and our rights over our own bodies. We appreciate your continued support. Donate here.
