Action Alert – Appropriations Debating Federal Budget This Week!

July 14, 2017 - By Essential Access Health - 0 Comments

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) released its draft appropriations measure for fiscal year (FY) 2018. The subcommittee will mark up the proposal this week and it is expected to head to the full House Appropriations Committee for debate and approval next week.

For the sixth time in the last eight years, the House has proposed elimination of the Title X family planning program. (The two years when the House did not propose elimination, they did not release a Labor-HHS spending bill.)

The current draft would also bar Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving any federal funding appropriated under this bill. It also proposes significant cuts to STD prevention programs and elimination of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention program.

Essential Access Health strongly opposes this proposal that if advanced, will devastate access to quality sexual and reproductive health care for millions across California and the country. Read our statement here. Your advocacy has never been more important. Take Action – contact your representatives today and urge them to protect Title X and the family planning safety-net.
