Driving the Vote for Equality Coming to Redding CA!

April 28, 2026 - 0 Comments

Dear Community,

As you know, Women’s Health Specialists has been organizing on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) within our clinics and communities in rural California. The ERA Now and the Sign4ERA petition drive — along with numerous partners — are coordinating the Driving the Vote for Equality Tour, which aims to raise awareness and mobilize supporters for the federal Equal Rights Amendment.

The tour launched on March 1 in New York City for Women’s History Month and, after a one-month pause, will start up again in Arizona on April 30 and then is coming through California with their last California stop in Redding!

Women’s Health Specialists is proud to host the Drive the Vote for Equality Tour on Friday, May 8th, 2026, at the River Front Park, followed by the lighting of the Sundial Bridge. We would like to invite you to join us for this historic event as we build collective power to secure equal rights for all!

The event will included educational speakers, signing of the ERA petition, and pictures with the mighty golden Saxon that drove for women’s suffrage in 1916. Program coming soon!

This event is a fast turnaround, so we will be moving quickly. Hope you join us. Info at Women’s Health Specialists

The History Behind the Tour (by Sign4ERA)
In 1916, two suffragists, Alice Burke and Nell Richardson, drove 10,700 miles across the country in a bright yellow Saxon automobile named the Golden Flyer. They were the first women to crisscross the United States by car. It was at a time when the federal suffrage amendment was stalled, as the ERA is stalled today.
In part because of their efforts and thousands of others, the suffrage movement regained political momentum. Women won the right to vote in 1920. The same momentum is growing for Congressional recognition of the ERA as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution.
Inspired by the suffragists’ Drive for the Vote for Women Tour in 1916, another tour is now taking place: Driving the Vote for Equality — this time to raise awareness and activate supporters for the Equal Rights Amendment.
The ERA is needed more than ever to stop the backlash on gender equality, including fighting to protect the right to vote in light of the proposed so-called SAVE Act and rollbacks in the Voting Rights Act, which would create barriers to women and people of color voting in the next election.

We also need new policies and statutes, in states and nationally, to prevent sex discrimination in the future, especially around new trends and technologies, including stronger protections against sexual assaults and legislation like the Artificial Intelligence Civil Rights Act.

Join the movement for Equal Rights! Show up with your signs and equal rights champions!

In community,

Women’s Health Specialists
