The Abortion Pill
Mifeprex is the "abortion pill" you may have heard about and has been available in the United States since 2000. You can use this drug to end your pregnancy if you are no more than nine weeks pregnant. Mifeprex has been safely used by thousands of women outside the U.S. and is about 95% effective. If it is not successful, you will need to get a surgical abortion. After the second medication is administered, 75% of women start their miscarriage within 4-8 hours. The miscarriage process usually lasts for a few hours, just like a natural miscarriage. Also, like a natural miscarriage, you will have some amount of discomfort (cramping) and bleeding through the process. It is important to return to your provider to get a sonogram to make sure this miscarriage was complete.
We have been providing Mifeprex since the FDA approved it for use in the U.S. Women who choose Mifeprex prefer it because they can avoid an invasive surgical procedure and can have a miscarriage in the privacy of their own home.
