While Gorney, in her article, "The Estrogen Dilemma"' acknowledges that women are confronted with a health dilemma when faced with the decision about taking hormones at menopause because of the link to heart attacks, strokes, and breast cancer, she brings up the potential for preventative use for depression and alzheimer's disease. The NWHN questions whether or not taking hormones prevents alzheimer's disease and depression. Many women are given hormone-like drugs to treat depression and prevention of dementia. No studies have been conducted that correlate hormone use with preventing alzheimer's disease or depression.
