Welcome to the Self-Help Women's Health Information Sharing Blog. Please post your comments, questions, and experiences in women's health. Share with other women health issues that are important to you - they will likely be important to other women as well. Over the years, as self-helpers have learned that women share commonality of experiences and concerns. We often learn more from each other about what is within the normal range, than what the traditional medical community has to offer us. This blog is for you, your sisters, mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and friends.

I recently learned something very interesting about Fertility Awareness that women should know about. If a woman is taking mucinex - an over-the-counter medication for reducing mucus for colds - it can effect cervical mucus. For women who are using Fertility Awareness as a method of birth control or to become pregnant, taking mucinex can interfere with detection of fertile mucus. Since mucinex makes Fertility Awareness less effective, women might want to use a backup method of birth control or not take mucinex. For more information on Fertility Detection/Fertility Awareness go to http://www.womenshealthspecialists.org/?cf=health/birth%20control/fertility%20awareness on our website.

This is an awesome blog already! Jude, that is so interesting about Mucinex, it makes total sense and I never would have thought of it! I am really excited to see and learn what my sisters in the feminist community have to share on this blog!

The new WHS blog is terrific! Thank you for your post about Mucinex, Jude. I have just started using fertility awareness techniques (checking mucus and basal temperature), but am prone to sinus problems and allergies, so this is great information!

Alese and I had a email discussion about vaginal discharge and what is within the range of normal.I hope that other women will feel welcome to share their experiences and questions and post them on this blog. Other women can respond to questions, and we will all benefit from each others experience and knowledge. That is what self-help is all about!
